Cam wear on a crankpin journal doesn't stay small.

An out-of-round crankpin journal loads its bearing unevenly, breaks down the oil film, and accelerates both journal and bearing damage. Measuring how far the cam/oval wear has gone — and confirming the journal is still repairable in place — is the decision that protects the crankshaft and the bearing.

What we look for

Journal ovality and ridge/cam profile, surface scoring and cracking, bearing condition, and evidence of the underlying cause — alignment, lubrication, or loading.
