RESTORE PRESSURE-TIGHT FLANGES IN-PLACE

Corroded, pitted, or mechanically damaged flange faces leak. Cooling water, fuel, steam, exhaust: any of these systems fails when the gasket can no longer seat. Replacing or workshop-machining large flanges in a marine environment costs weeks and forces extensive pipe disassembly.

OSM International's portable flange facing machines clamp directly to the pipe or valve body and restore the sealing face to the required flatness and surface finish. The work happens on the vessel or at the dock, with the pipe section left in place.

Our certified technicians have faced flanges in engine rooms, pump rooms, offshore topsides, and industrial process plants. Flange ODs run from 50mm to 4,000mm across every metallic material we machine.

FLANGE FACING: ANSWERED

What is flange facing?

Flange facing machines the sealing surface of a pipe flange, valve body, or heat exchanger face back to the required flatness and surface finish. Corrosion, mechanical damage, or weld distortion leaves faces out of specification, and that causes leaks in critical pressure systems. Flange facing corrects the face without replacing the flange assembly.

Can flanges be machined without cutting the pipe?

Yes. Our portable flange facing machines clamp directly to the pipe or valve body and machine the sealing face in-place. No pipe cutting, no disconnection, no transport to a machine shop. You save days of piping work, and the system goes back into service the moment machining is complete.

What flange sizes can be faced onsite?

Our portable facing machines cover flange outer diameters from 50mm up to 4,000mm in all metallic materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, Inconel, and copper-nickel alloys. We handle ASME Class 150 through 2500 pressure ratings in engine rooms, pump rooms, offshore topsides, and process plants.

What standards do you work to for flange facing?

We perform flange facing to ASME B16.5, EN 1092-1, and API 6A / API 17D standards, achieving flatness tolerances of 0.025mm per 300mm and surface finishes of Ra 0.8-6.3µm as required by the gasket type and pressure class. All work is documented with certified dimensional reports.

How long does onsite flange facing take?

A single flange face is typically machined in a few hours; multi-flange or large-diameter work runs one to two days on site. We mobilize within 24 to 48 hours, so the line or vessel is back in service far sooner than a workshop turnaround.
